Freeze Frame!

Anyone else remember that song? Freeze Frame?  I'm an 80's girl, so that song immediately popped into my mind while writing this post.  Anyway, framing (the construction kind not the kind in the song--hee, hee) on our home on the Lane began today.  Woot!

The start of the framing with a little Marea pose thrown in for good measure.
The builders promised us they would start 3 days ago, on Monday, but Monday came and went with no action.  So did Tuesday. Annnd Wednesday.  We pretty much expected this since hearing they're 3 weeks behind, but still, if you promise something, generally you follow through with that promise, right? With nothing happening, we were left looking at this for many days.
Yup, a big ol' pile of wood.  Although Eric and I were a little disheartened every time we saw it, at least the kids had fun investigating.
What's back there, Marea?
So, this evening, after dropping Evan off at soccer, I took Miss Marea out to get the mail (all of our mail is being delivered to the temporary mailbox at the new house--looong, boring story) and check on the house.  We were beyond thrilled to see the framing has begun!  It is certainly starting to feel more real to me now that there's something tangible that is actually starting to resemble a house.
They've gotten the exterior of the basement basically framed in, so you can tell where the rooms will be (although the basement won't be finished right away).  The large window opening directly behind Marea will be our guest bedroom.  The window is HUGE--way bigger than I'd thought, which makes me a very, very happy camper:)  Robert and Mary--you'll have a great view when you visit, as will anyone else who wants to stay in our future guest room!
This view is looking down to the basement from where the garage will be.  The guest room area is to the left, and the family room area will be along the right side.  There will be patio doors (right where my and M's shadows are).  The stairs are on the left side of the photo, in front of the guest room. It's starting to take shape--at least more than earlier this week when this was what we had:
Evan in a giant pile of gravel aka the basement

Evan was trying to picture where everything will be, which was hard.  The kids kept saying it seemed so small.

And then sometimes they just got bored because nothing was happening, which meant they made their own fun, like so:
Who wouldn't be comfortable squatting in a ruffly skirt in a pile of gravel with no shoes on while clapping their hands? Um, apparently not Marea!

But really, this is what I have spent months and months waiting for--this time when the rooms finally start taking shape and we have an idea of what the house that's only existed on paper will actually become! Hopefully we'll have more frequent updates for a while--stay tuned!
